About Us
Sweetwater Farm Bed and Breakfast is a tranquil haven situated on fifty acres in the historic Brandywine Valley. Our original Quaker farmhouse dates to 1734, and the Hemphill family added a magnificent Georgian addition in 1815. Sweetwater Farm housed the British after the battle of the Brandywine in 1777, was a safe house for the Underground Railroad, and the farmhouse’s third floor was a Civil War infirmary.
New to Sweetwater Farm is the addition of Grace Winery. Our five acre estate vineyard is just off the Manor House. The back porch is the perfect location to watch the sun sink behind the vineyard while enjoying our first vintage, a delightful 2009 Chardonnay.
Enjoy our gourmet country breakfast each morning in either our elegant dining room or, when the weather warms, on the back patio overlooking the back pastures. Make yourself at home in our delightfully cozy den, the parlor or the billiards room, all with working fireplaces.
We’re just minutes from Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, and all the Brandywine Valley attractions.
